SwaziLII Launches the Freedom Toaster, 31 May 2012

On 30 June 2012, I travelled from OR Tambo International to Sikuphe International in Manzini, Swaziland. A short flight from Johannesburg (barely enough time for a cup of coffee!) but quite far removed from Jozi’s mad pace.

The occasion for the travel was the launch of the SwaziLII Freedom Toaster. I was particularly excited because my colleagues and I had been bothering funders literally for years to fund a Freedom Toaster!

AfricanLII in Freetown, Sierra Leone: workshop with SierraLII

Arriving at Lungi International Airport in Sierra Leone after departing Johannesburg, South Africa 17 hours previously, is almost unreasonably exhilarating. The tropical winter heat is refreshing after the long hours of airconditioned plane travel. Of course there is still the ride to the ferry embarkation point and then the cool sea breeze of the ferry trip to one of the wharfs in Freetown.

The LVI conference in Hong Kong

From 8 - 10 June, 2011, the university of Hong Kong working with Hong Kong LII has hosted the Law via the Internet conference.

Tererai has been attending on behalf of the AfricanLII and today presented our paper: AfricanLII – An Approach to Developing Free Access to Law in Africa.

SwaziLII was also formally accepted as a member of the free access to law movement. Congratulations, Gugu!

 

AfricanLII at the eLearning Conference in Dar es Salaam

AfricanLII were invited to participate in a workshop coordinated by LexUM at the 6th International eLearning conference in Dar es Salaam.

The eLearning conference is the largest ICT conference in Africa with 1702 participants this year from over 90 countries from Africa and beyond.
